Goose will eat around 200g of food per day. Goose love greens such as cabbage, cauliflower leaves and lettuce. They will also eat leftover vegetables like cooked potatoes, carrots etc. Goose can be fed exclusively on grass if enough of it and it is of sufficient quality. Grass contains all of the vitamins and minerals geese need when it is fresh in the Spring. when we run out of good clean grass, wheat can be fed in the bottom of a bucket of water. Generally, we provide a little food for goose to take for breakfast or before bed.
When the grass is growing well during the spring and summer months, this is rarely needed. Goose should always be offered layers pellets ( Poultry food suitable for birds producing large numbers of eggs) during the breeding season to provide calcium.
It is very interesting to watch the activities of the Rabbits and also it is very much lovable in nature and it will come to you. You can also feed the Rabbits by providing them grass and other eatables as follows.
Rabbits need mainly hay and/or grass, some leafy greens and a small, measured amount of pellets. Rabbits don’t naturally eat root vegetables/fruit. Carrots/fruit are high in sugar and should only be fed in small amounts as occasional treats. The main part of a rabbit’s diet must be hay, and high fibre supplements. Other common vegetables to avoid are Beans, Cabbage, Cauliflower, kale, Parsnips, Potato or Potato peelings, Rhubarb, Spinach, Swedes and Tomato leaves.
Foods that are safe to feed a rabbit in small amounts are Basil, Beet Greens, Carrot and Carrot tops, Celery leaves, Dandelion leaves and flower, Dill, Mint, Parsley, Watercress, Wheat grass. Fruit is very sugary so only feed occasionally in small amounts, Apple, Bananas, also Blueberries, Cranberries, Pears, Raspberries and Strawberries.
If feeding a rabbit apples or pears, be sure that you do not feed the pips of these fruits since, they contain minute amounts of cyanide, which although harmless to humans ,can be harmful to rabbits. Finally, do not feed foods high in carbohydrates. Do not feed Beans, Breakfast cereals, Bread, Cookies, Corn, or nuts which may contribute to enterotoxaemia, a condition in which the blood contains toxin from the intestines.

Vellavali—Unique Type Of Fishing
You can watch this unique type of fishing from ILLIKKALAM Lakeside Cottages or take a motorboat into the lake for few hours and can experience into it.One of the very strange way of fishing in these region is Vellavali, and only one type of fish called, Karimeen (Pearl spot) is caught by bare hand by fishermen by this way of fishing called Vellavali. Karimeen is a popular fish and is generally found in the Backwaters of Kerala. It is a very tasty fish and usually it may grow more than 200 grams and the general size will be the size of a human palm, but it is having bones also.
Small wooden country boat is used for the fishing, and in each Country Boat 5 to 7 people will be there for catching the fish in the backwaters. They will carry minimum 3 long bamboo poles; one man will use one of the poles from the backside of the Country Boat for moving the same and others will use oars to move into the pre planned fishing spot.
They will carry a long Valli (Unique fishing equipment) of around 85 Mar (475 Feet),this Valli was formerly made up of long thick coir and the tender coconut leaf. Thousands of the same leaf after removing the mid-rib will be attached to the Valli, each leaf will have average 1 inch thickness and 2 to 2.5 feet length. This leaf will be attached with the distance of up to 8 inch. Now a day’s plastic is being used for the coir and for the leaf.
Two men will tie each end of the Valli just above their hip and will take one bamboo pole each and they will jump down from the country boat to the water and they will start their forward movement by walking, swimming or jumping with the help of the pole, and they will keep the distance of around 75 feet, thus they will drag the Valli in a U shape through the down of the water. Two to three persons will be following at the back side of the U shaped Valli, they will make sounds with their hands and legs by swimming, beating and cutting into the water.
The fish (Karimeen) which is already in the U shaped valli,by seeing the peculiar glittering colour of the leaves of the valli usually get scared and move forward to the back side of the U shaped Valli ,very fast ,but when they reach at the down of the U shaped vally, they will get further scared by hearing the artificial sound of the fishermen diving in the water and immediately they will dip into the mud,to get escaped, when it goes through the mud at the bottom of the water, because of the movements of the back fin,mud will come up in the water. The fisher men at the back ,will be watching this by diving and looking at the bottom, then the fisher men will know immediately where exactly the fish is under the mud and the fisher men will dive into the bottom of the water and with their bare hand ,using only the fingers, they will catch the fish on the head, and dive back to the surface of the water and by keeping the balance in the water by floating ,they will throw the fish into the small country boat ,which may be in the distance of 5 to 25 feet away. One fisher man will be in charge of the country boat, who will try to keep close to the divers so as to enable them to throw the catched fish from the water, very soon into the Country Boat. The divers will go back soon into underground of the water as so many fish will be dipping into the mud again and again till the drawing of the Valli stops by the first two persons. They start their fishing by 8am and stops by 2pm, usually they stop the fishing which depends upon, the climatic condition (Severe breeze & waves and also underground water should be clear, then only the divers can see the movements of the fish) and also depends upon the volume of the catch of the fish. Generally they get from 5 Kg to 20 Kg fish (30 to 120 fish) The surprising fact is that the diving fishermen even go down up to 24 feet without any diving materials, for catching the Karimeen in this unique way.

The bund, which has a length of 1400 meters, is situated between 76° 23′ and 76° 25′E and 9° 40′B latitude. This includes a 470m-long reclaimed portion in the middle. The Thanneermukkom Bund (Thannermukkom Salt Water Barrier) was constructed as a part of the Kuttanad Development Scheme to prevent tidal action and intrusion of salt water into the Kuttanad low-lands across Vembanad Lake between Thannermukkom on south and Vechur on north. Thanneermukkom Bund was constructed in 1974 and is functional since 1976. It is the largest mud regulator in India. This barrier essentially divides the lake into two parts – one with brackish water perennially and the other half with fresh water fed by the rivers draining into the lake.
It has been built across Lake Vembanad. It connects Vechoor of Kottayam district and Thanneermukkom of Alappuzha district. It can be reached by road, from Kottayam town, Alappuzha or Cherthala. Frequent bus services are available from all the places mentioned. This barrier has helped the farmers in Kuttanad – where farming occurs below sea level. It has however also created ecological problems, primarily, the rampant propagation of the Water Hyacinth in fresh water. The backwaters which were abundant with fish and part of the staple food of the people of the region require a small amount of salt water for their breeding. The salt water barrier has caused deterioration of the catch of fish in the region and the fishermen are opposed to the bund as of 2005.
The salt water barrier has also disrupted the harmony of the sea with the backwaters and has caused problems not foreseen before the salt water barrier like the omnipresence of the water weeds. Earlier the salt water tends to cleanse the backwaters but this does not happen any more leading to the pollution of the backwaters and the entire land nearby. The shutters are opened during monsoon and are closed after approximately six months.
